Nearly there

I was at the house at 0700 this morning pulling back underlay and pulling up floorboards. Neil the joiner arrived at about 0745 and got stuck into the skirting in the living room. If it looks alright I’ll put down some plywood this evening so that the room is at least clean for the furniture arriving on Tuesday. The fireplace will not be arriving until December so we do need to clean this room up as much as possible just in case Christmas comes and goes with no firepalce.

The plumber – a new one this time – arrived at 0900 and is busy hanging radiators at the moment and will hopefully be finished by the time the carpet guys get back after lunch. Once that’s done and he can start the heating again we should be sorted.

Then the botched kitchen counter is coming back on Thursday to be fitted – hopefully correctly this time. Really looking forward to that.

The house is still full of boxes and boxes of clothes and miscellaneous crap but we will be sorting that out when we are back in.

Aaarrrgghhhh!!!!

FFS – the kitchen counter arrived today and only one out of four sections was usable. The templating was totally off and the parts didn’t fit together. Stupid kitchen supplier.

Then the bloody plumber — having put us off yesterday due to his van having been broken into, then waiting for the cops, then waiting for the autoglass people — called today to say he’d contracted the Ebola virus or something *cough* *cough* and couldn’t come back until Monday.

Of course the carpeters are busy working away today although the intention was to have the radiators up before the carpet went down — pretty much the ‘industry standard’ way of doing it — and have very kindly offered to knock off early today and come back on Monday afternoon to lay it once the radiators are in. The carpeting they’ve done so far looks great.

The counter is going to look brilliant though – we can tell that from the one sad section that they’ve left behind……

Moving back home

We had the cleaners in yesterday and carpet being fitted today. Kitchen counter tomorrow and then our furniture arrives next Tuesday. We move in on Saturday so hopefully a return to normal life soon. Kitchen looks great, really pleased with the walnut floor even if it is going to be trashed by the kids! The living room is just plastered and waiting for a fireplace sometime in December which is a pain but we will try to leave it liveable until then. Just sold the two wood burning stoves on ebay. Got 345 for the green one and 205 for the smaller black one which was totally unexpected. I am also looking forward to getting the home network in service soon. I have cat6 cable strung throughout the house so hopefully it all goes live for me!
