A wonderful moment! Jean and our first child. The sex was a mystery until today but we had a few potential names for boys or girls. This little one was greeted with “Hello Sophie!” by both of us! Who would guess from this picture that Jean was declaring “never again” only an hour before. Sophie too looks a little stunned. I think both ladies have an excuse! It was a long labour and all concerned are hoping for a good nights sleep tonight!

Wow. I look more than a little pleased with myself I think! It will take a long time to sink in of course – 20 years at least. Hi Sophie – welcome to the family!
Jean and Sophie about an hour and a half after the birth.
Here’s little Sophie Ball waving hello to the world with her little blue fingers! Born 16:01 24 October, Marien Hospital, Dusseldorf. Weight 3 kg (6.6 pounds in old money). The beautiful result of 40 hours labour for Jean. Our beautiful baby girl. Thanks to Helena, Ruth and Patrick at the hospital. Adam, Jean and Sophie.
Went to london and this is the only shot i got. Great to see Helen and Marc again though! On the Bakerloo line and hopefully about to make my flight back to Germany. Will look very stupid if I don’t as several of my colleagues should be there……. Gulp! Which coincidentally is also the noise I have been making for the last two hours in the queens whistle or some similarly named pub near leicester square. See Marc can do his falling asleep trick standing up too!
